frequently asked questions
APPOINTMENTS & BOOKING
Q: How do I book an appointment?
⌄
A: You can book directly online via the booking button on this website, which will take you to my online scheduling system. You can choose a 30 or 60 mins video consultation. For face to face consultatuon, please email me at info@drtatyana.co.uk
Q: How quickly can I get an appointment?
⌄
A: I aim to offer same-day or next-day appointments for acute concerns. For functional medicine consultations, which require a little more preparation on both sides, appointments are typically available within a few days. Please get in touch and I'll do my best to accommodate your schedule.
Q: Do you offer video consultations?
⌄
A: Yes. Video consultations are available for both private GP appointments and functional medicine consultations. They are particularly convenient for follow-up appointments, prescription reviews, and initial discussions. Some situations - such as physical examinations - do require an in-person visit, and I'll let you know in advance if that's the case.
Q: What are your consultation fees?
⌄
A: Face-to-face consultations are £350 for 60 minutes and £250 for 30 minutes. Video consultations are £300 for 60 minutes and £200 for 30 minutes. For functional medicine patients, I recommend the 60-minute appointment for an initial consultation, as this allows us to explore your health history thoroughly. Follow-up appointments can often be shorter.
Q: Do you accept health insurance?
⌄
A: I am currently a self-pay practice, which means consultations are not billed directly to insurance providers. However, I can provide you with a detailed receipt and consultation notes that you may be able to submit to your insurer for reimbursement, depending on your policy. I'd recommend checking with your insurer in advance. Please contact me if you have any questions about this.
Q: Where are you located?
⌄
A: Face-to-face appointments take place at Charterhouse Clinic, 98 Crawford Street, London W1 2HL. The clinic is conveniently located in Marylebone, close to Baker Street and Marble Arch tube stations. If you are coming from outside London, video consultations are also available.
PRIVATE GP SERVICES
Q: What does a private GP appointment include?
⌄
A: A private GP appointment gives you dedicated, unhurried time with me to discuss your health concerns fully. I can assess acute and chronic conditions, issue prescriptions (including electronic prescriptions), arrange referrals to specialists, request blood tests, urine tests, scans, or ECGs, and provide letters or reports as needed. Unlike an NHS appointment, there is no time pressure — I take the time to listen properly and explain everything clearly.
Q: Do you see children as well as adults?
⌄
A: Yes, I see both adults and children for private GP consultations. Whether your child has an acute infection, a skin concern, or you simply want a second opinion, I am happy to help.
Q: Can you issue prescriptions?
⌄
A: Yes. I can issue both acute and repeat prescriptions, including electronic prescriptions that can be sent directly to a pharmacy of your choice. If you need a prescription for an ongoing condition, I can review your current medication and issue a private prescription as appropriate.
Q: Can you refer me to a specialist?
⌄
A: Yes. I can write referral letters to consultants and specialists across a wide range of disciplines. I work with specialists across London and can recommend trusted colleagues based on your specific needs. I can also arrange referrals for investigations such as blood tests, scans, ECGs, and DEXA scans.
FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE
Q: What is functional medicine and how is it different from a regular GP appointment?
⌄
A: Functional medicine looks at the root causes of health problems rather than just managing symptoms. While a conventional GP appointment focuses on diagnosing and treating a specific condition, a functional medicine consultation takes a broader view - exploring how your diet, sleep, stress, gut health, hormones, and environment are all interconnected and contributing to how you feel. It is particularly valuable for people with chronic, complex, or long-standing symptoms that haven't been fully resolved by conventional treatment.
Q: Who is functional medicine suitable for?
⌄
A: Functional medicine is suitable for anyone dealing with chronic or recurring health issues, particularly those who feel their symptoms have been dismissed or haven't responded well to standard treatment. Common concerns I help with include fatigue, gut problems, thyroid issues, hormonal imbalances, PCOS, skin conditions such as eczema and acne, autoimmune conditions, metabolic health, and brain fog. It is also suitable for people who simply want a more proactive, preventative approach to their health.
Q: What happens in a functional medicine consultation?
⌄
A: Before your first appointment, I'll ask you to complete a detailed health questionnaire covering your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and diet. This means we can make the most of our time together. During the consultation, which is 60 minutes, we'll explore your health in depth and I'll begin to build a picture of the underlying factors contributing to your concerns. Following the appointment, I'll create a personalised plan covering nutrition, lifestyle, supplements if appropriate, and any further testing I recommend. We'll then review your progress at follow-up appointments and adjust the plan as needed.
Q: Do I need special tests for functional medicine?
⌄
A: Not always — many people benefit significantly from changes to diet and lifestyle alone, and I won't recommend testing unless it will genuinely change your treatment plan. However, in some cases, advanced functional medicine tests can be very revealing. These may include gut microbiome analysis, comprehensive hormone panels, nutrient deficiency testing, food sensitivity testing, and metabolic or genetic panels. I work with leading specialist laboratories and will always explain clearly why a test is being recommended and what we hope to learn from it.
Q: How long does it take to see results with functional medicine?
⌄
A: This varies depending on the complexity and duration of your health concerns. Some patients notice meaningful improvements within four to six weeks of making changes. For more complex, long-standing conditions, the process takes longer — typically three to six months of consistent effort. Functional medicine is not a quick fix, but it is designed to create lasting change rather than temporary relief.
GENERAL
Q: Do you speak any languages other than English?
⌄
A: Yes, I speak both English and Russian fluently. I am happy to conduct consultations in either language. If you or a family member would feel more comfortable discussing your health in Russian, please don't hesitate to book - this is something I can accommodate with ease.
Q: Are you registered with the GMC?
⌄
A: Yes. I am fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and hold the MRCGP qualification. I am also a Functional Medicine practitioner, trained through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). You can verify my registration on the GMC website at gmc-uk.org.
Q: I'm not sure which type of appointment I need — can you help?
⌄
A: Of course. If you have an acute concern — an infection, a new symptom, or something that needs prompt attention — a standard private GP appointment is the right starting point. If you have a chronic, complex, or long-standing health issue that you'd like to explore more deeply, a functional medicine consultation would be more appropriate. If you're still unsure, feel free to email me at info@drtatyana.co.uk with a brief description of your concern and I'll point you in the right direction.
Q: Is my information kept confidential?
⌄
A: Absolutely. All consultations and health information are strictly confidential and handled in accordance with UK data protection law (GDPR) and GMC guidelines on patient confidentiality. Your records will never be shared with third parties without your explicit consent, except in the limited circumstances required by law.
